In principle, me likey a lot. In practice, practically eve ry cosmetic change in the photoshoot car is ugh. In particular,I ’m not sure whether the wheels or the blackout grille are the bigger crime.
Still, presumably you can have it tweaked how you like it.

Wonder if they are going to build more of that XJS Shooting Break as well

Oooh, I saw that on some site or other today. It’s described as “new” which got me wondering if it’s really recreated from the ground up or is a Singer type re
build.

I want to see what they would do with a XJS-12 Convertible

That was Lynx not Ar den. I’d be all about an updated versi on of that though. Might even make economic sense though - original Eventers are going for silly money nowadays.

Rebuild. You start with a donor XJ12.

I do not care for the new grille at all. (I’m p utting that nicely. ) I would ask for a darker leather interior.

Speaking as a Series-3 XJ6 Owner, the wheels, steering wheel and grille are crimes against humanity but if they keep more of these beauties on the road, so be it.
Bravo to them for respecting the 5.3.
Proper series 3 (mine) for your time:

Don’t forget the ricer airdam, the dechroming, and the quad exhausts while you’re being rude about the details. Though I agree, your three are the biggies. Particularly the wheels - if you’re going to move away from Kents (which you shouldn’t) then some basketweaves are the way to go.

I love the Kents, I made sure the one I bought had them. The stock steering wheel is not great, I found a nice used Nardi (similar to the IM’s Sunchaser) on eBay I hope to install soon.

Yes,mine had Kents too. Much nicer than the pepperpots, in fact I’d rate them as Jag’s best alloy ever, with the possible exception of D- Type Dunlops.

Hmm. I love an old XJ. But I'm glad they bastardized a series 3 instead of an early 2 or a 1. I don't hate it. There are things I respect. And I love that it doesn't have a stupid Chevy engine.

I dunno, I have a soft spot for S3s, having owned one. I think Pini nfarina did a great job of subtly modernizing what was by then a 10 year old design.
When I win the lottery though, it’ll be an XJC I’m restomodding.
You’ re 100% right on the Chev engine though:those are f ricking criminal.

Honestly my biggest issues with the 3's are the bumpers and steering wheels. Otherwise they’re wonderful.
XJC *swoons*

T he bumpers aren’t exactly gorgeous, no, but compare them to other cars of the era - they’re one of the best efforts out there at making 1970s rubber monstrosities look like they belong. It’s one of the main aspects I give pininfarina props for.

That’s fair. But then I think about a series 1. 70's and 80's cars don’t do anything for me for the most part. I could maybe list 10 total from both decades that I would be happy to have in my garage. I’m not in love with the series 3, but I think I would put it on that list.
